What is Footprinting?

Footprinting is the process of collecting as much information as possible about a target system or organisation before launching an attack. This includes identifying IP address ranges, domain names, email addresses, employee names, technology stacks, and publicly exposed services. Footprinting is a subset of reconnaissance and forms the foundation for all subsequent phases of a penetration test.
