What is Vulnerability Assessment?

A vulnerability assessment is a systematic process of identifying, classifying, and prioritising security weaknesses across systems, networks, or applications. Unlike penetration testing, a vulnerability assessment typically does not involve active exploitation of the weaknesses found. It provides a broad overview of an organisation's security posture and is often used as a starting point before commissioning a full penetration test.
